This is the High Country and nothing comes quiet or easy  -  too hot, too cold, too wet, too windy. Frigid enough to freeze the water pipes and hot enough to fry an egg on the bonnet of your car., and sunrises and sunsets to make you gasp and pause to admire the moment

Melissa's Speedy Eating His Dinner In The Snow

Being from Sweden, and originally Finland, Melissa loves the snow. So while the rest of us were sheltering inside and feeling miserable Melissa was out playing with her horse in the cold. The worst part of the storm was the hundreds of cars that trekked out from town to see and touch the snow.  Gates were left open when people finished playing in the snow, near miss accidents were the norm and one of the plonkers, on the way back to town, felt the need to take out a power pole and cut our electricity off for four hours!

Freak Hail Storm Hits The Taylor Pass

I was unfortunately driving back from town one day when the sky got blacker and blacker and then the hail storm hit. The hailstones were so big that they covered the road instantly and it was like trying to drive on ball bearings. I had to park up and watch and hope that the car's paintwork would survive.
